  The Red Pear Theatre Story

The Book

"It was the apogee of gigs..."
— Janet Suzman

For ten frenetic years, a shabby old theatre in the back streets of Antibes was the crucible of a unique experiment.

Take sun-starved actors from Britain's best theatre companies. Fly them down on Squeezyjet, put them on a stage in front of hundreds of culture-hungry expats. And see what happens...

A Glimpse behind the curtain

Hilary King

Hilary trained for the theatre at Rose Bruford College. After several years working in education and journalism in London, she moved to Asia and rediscovered her first love, staging theatre for children in Japan and producing immersive whodunnits in Hong Kong.

She launched the Red Pear Theatre in Antibes, France, in 1995.

Returning to London in 2019 and establishing herself in an attic eyrie overlooking the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, she spent the Covid lockdown preparing this book, and is now planning to launch a salon.
